The Cottonwood Fire Dept. responded to 6 calls for service during March.

2 - Motor Vehicles Crashes (1 with injuries . 1 on private property involving utilities)
2 - Woods / Grass Fires  (Grass fire in town / Woods fire in Lucy)
 1 - Aircraft Crash (Ultra-light)
 1 - Medical Assist
An estimated 1,200 gallons of water was used for suppression, maintenance, and training.

The wreck involving utilities was the result of an 18 wheeler attempting to turn around in a barnyard on Stateline Rd. The trailer struck a power line going to a pole barn. The tension pulled the pole over causing it to break. The driver then backed onto the road still trying to turn around. While completely blocking Stateline Rd. he managed to get the tractor stuck in the ditch. Fire and Police had to reroute traffic for 2 hours from Willie Varnum Rd. to Buntin Rd. until the truck was moved.

The aircraft crash was due to a person trying to fly a homemade "ultra-light" plane in high winds. The plane went down in a wooded area over a half mile from Guy Branch Rd. north of Hickory Grove Rd. The occupant was transported to a hospital by Cottonwood Rescue with several broken bones but no life threatening injuries. There may have been "other factors" contributing to the crash.

The fire department will be selling homemade Brunswick stew on Friday April 26th. This is the day before the Down Home Country Fest.  Quart containers will be sold for $7.00 each. The food is not being sold for "on-site consumption". Event flyers are posted around town and on the internet. There has been some good feedback about it. Several tickets have been sold and plans are still in progress.

Recently, four area residents in their late teens have applied for membership. They all seem to be interested in helping and have attended meetings and some calls. We now have 27 members on our roster.
