Town Council Meeting

September 22, 2020


Members Present: Mayor Ken Hamilton, James Coachman, Michael Capehart, Ann Adams, and Kenneth Hart

Members Absent:  

Mayor Ken Hamilton opened the meeting at 6:00 P. M.  Council Member Coachman opened our meeting with a Special Prayer for Linda Smith family. Mayor Hamilton and the Council led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Council Member Adams made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes from council meeting on August 18th and workshop on September 01st and except the minutes as presented.  There was a second by Council Member Coachman and the motion was approved unanimously.

Approval for the August financial reports were presented to the Council by the Town Clerk. Council Member Hart made a motion to approve the reports as presented.  A second by Council Member Coachman and the motion was approved unanimously.

Mayor Hamilton presented the fire report for the month of August.  Total of 12 calls for the month of August. 

Colonel Smith presented the police reports for the month of August.  There were a total of 153 calls for service, 07 reports written, 0 medical assists, 30 traffic warnings issued, 18 traffic citations issued, 0 traffic warrant, 0 drug arrest, 1 felonies, 0 misdemeanor, 01 Arrests Made and 20 auxiliary hours.

Mayor announced we had some flooding on Todd Street in a home.

Mayor also announced on Dyras Road there was a water line that had to be repaired under the road and the pavement had been was cut and after all the rain it caused a pot hole and a Mr. Danny Jones hit the pot hole and broke his axle. Mr. Danny Jones truck repair will be $2,608.96 to Techway Automotive. Council Member Adams made a motion to pay for the repairs to Techway Automotive for the amount of $2,608.96.  A second by Council Member Capehart and the motion was approved unanimously.

Discussion on Cottonwood City Cemetery on the wash out on the Sealy Wells roadside. Also, a discussion on getting a Title search on the property.  Council Member Hart made a motion to approve to have title search done.  A second by Council Member Capehart and the motion was approved unanimously.   

A Special Thank you from the Smith Family. For the respect shown by the Town’s people standing by the roadside while Linda Smith made her last ride through Cottonwood.  And the Police and fire department escorted the family though town.

Clean City Ordinance will be on next meeting.

Debris pick up September 28th.

*Discussion on Metcalf Street limbs needing cutting.

*Council Member Adams ask what was going on with the property of the Granberry’s across from hardware Store.  Mayor replied it is for Sale for $125,000.00.

*Council Member Adams ask about Kelly Park.  Mayor replied the Town is no longer taking care of the park.  The Cottonwood United Methodist Church is over it.

*Opening of the bids for the paving of Metcalf Street was today.

*Houston Street Paving and Metcalf Street Paving will start about the same time.

There being no further business to come before this meeting, there was a motion by Council Member Coachman to adjourn the meeting.  A second by Council Adams and the meeting was adjourned at 6:38 P.M.
