Projects and Operations

Officer Mike Meadows received compliments from the Houston County District Attorney’s Office for his case preparation a vehicle condemnation. The court awarded the Cottonwood Police Department a 2008 Tahoe. Following the 42 day appeal period the Town will take possession of the vehicle for law enforcement use. Chessey was instrumental in making this case.

Based upon information developed by Officer Meadows, a search warrant was executed in public housing. During the course of the search warrant, a suspect assaulted Colonel Smith. The suspect was charged with possession of marijuana, assault third degree, and endangering the welfare of a child. A second search warrant was executed and officers found marijuana. No arrest has been made in the second case.

Colonel Smith and Chief Edwards investigated criminal trespassing in which an individual had established a “camp” on another person’s wooded property. The individual was warned that he was trespassing and the land owner intended to prosecute unless the materials he had present were removed. The individual complied.

Colonel Smith and Officer Murkerson investigated a domestic violence case. Officers summoned an individual involved in the case to court. The suspect had injuries and officers did not want to incarcerate him.

Colonel Smith investigated a fraudulent tax return. The investigation was turned over to the Alabama Department of Revenue and the IRS. The individual involved was claiming a non-existent dependent.

Colonel Smith investigated the theft of fire equipment. A volunteer firefighter left the area without returning his equipment. A warrant has been signed for his arrest.
